On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, the Minister of Health announced the appointment of Thomas J Digby as the new Chairperson for the PMPRB. This nomination comes after over a year of being vacant when Dr. Mitchell Levine completed his five-year term tenure on November 2021. Thomas J. Digby is appointed for a term of five years. He is an attorney with over 25 years experience in pharmaceutical patent law.

The announcement today is critical for the development of the Draft 2022 Guidelines as the Chair and Vice Chair vacancies left PMPRB staff unable to proceed with operational procedures (opening/closing investigations, amending guidelines, etc.). The vice chair position remains open since the departure of Mélanie Bourassa Forcier in December 2022.
